The Hirsch Therapy Experience: What You Can Expect

Updated: Jul 14

Sunlit winter road representing the healing journey with Hirsch Therapy

Welcome to the Hirsch Therapy Experience, where your mental health and well-being are our top priority. Established by Sasha Javadpour, our approach provides a safe and non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're new to therapy or have prior experience, our goal is to facilitate healing, growth, and overall well-being.

Therapy is a conversational approach to mental healthcare. For us, it is a space where you can be open and vulnerable without fear of judgment or consequences. Your Hirsch Therapist is here to listen and help you navigate your thoughts and feelings, no matter how dark or troubling they may seem. Whether it is your most outrageous dreams, wildest goals, deepest fears, shameful behaviours, or controversial views – the space is yours and we are here with you.

In this article, we will share what the Hirsch Therapy experience is about and what you can expect when working with us.

What Happens During Each Therapy Session?

Each therapy session at Hirsch Therapy follows a structured yet flexible approach tailored to your unique needs. Here's what you can generally expect during your sessions, broken down into five stages:

Stage 1: Assessment

In the initial sessions, we focus on understanding your issues in depth. Just like a doctor conducts a thorough examination to diagnose a physical ailment, we gather detailed information about your mental health before committing to any action. This may involve noting timelines, assessing the intensity of your experiences, and gathering contextual information. Sometimes, you might be given surveys or questionnaires to fill out. Together, these will help us get to the core of it and identify a concrete subject to tackle.

Stage 2: Exploration

Once the initial assessment is complete, we dive deeper into your relationship with the issues. We explore your experiences in greater depth and examine your thoughts and feelings. We will also dive into how these issues affect various aspects of your life. Here, we explore your story so far.

Stage 3: Understanding & Challenging

This stage is about gaining a clearer understanding of the underlying problems and how they are impacting you. We examine triggers - what makes them triggers, how they work, and what is keeping them around. We then discuss your preferred outcomes and start bridging the gap between your current situation and your desired goals. This involves challenging, rethinking, and rewriting your narrative to transform it into a new story of overcoming, resilience, strength, healing, and wisdom.

Stage 4: Action Planning

Here, we design interventions targeting the core issues identified. These can range from continued discussions to thought and behavioural exercises. These actionable steps target your Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) goals. We also identify outcome measures to track your progress to let us know if we are on track or if something in the design needs to be modified or adjusted.

Stage 5: Evaluation & Review

Throughout your therapy journey, we continuously assess your progress. When mutually agreed-upon goals are achieved, we discuss terminating therapy. The termination session signals the conclusion of the primary course of intervention. It involves reviewing your progress, what was learnt, and the gains made. We also discuss whether booster sessions might be beneficial. These sessions are designed as periodical check-ins and can help maintain progress and manage any upcoming challenges you might foresee.

What Can You Expect From The Hirsch Therapy Experience?

You can expect a safe, confidential, and supportive environment where your success and well-being are a priority. We are constantly working on improving your experience with us and aim to create a warm and hopeful environment for you. Your Hirsch Therapist is also highly observant, gathering information not to judge you, but to understand you better. This understanding helps tailor our service to your specific needs. We strongly value the therapeutic relationship and, above all, prioritise fostering a trusted partnership with you.

The Hirsch Therapy Rules of Confidentiality

Confidentiality is paramount to us. Anything discussed during sessions remains strictly private. We may want to discuss involving another party to support your journey only under several unique conditions. For one, case notes may be shared with a trusted supervisor for additional support, but without identifiable information – our supervisors are also bound by confidentiality laws. Also, if you find the need to involve other parties in your journey, such as loved ones or other experts, you may permit us to disclose the required information. Lastly, should the risk of self-harm or danger to others arise, we will want to discuss options that ensure safety with you. This may mean involving other parties and disclosing only pertinent information with your permission. Again, it will all be discussed with you first to determine the best way to help and support you – your health and well-being remain our top priority.

How Many Sessions Will Be Required?

Your Hirsch Therapist will work with you to determine the ideal duration and frequency. The number of therapy sessions varies depending on individual goals, needs, and the complexity of the issues being addressed. Some clients may achieve their goals in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Some, and we highly recommend this, include the occasional check-in session on their yearly calendar as a part of their mental wellness plan. Therapy is not just for solving a problem, but also a good opportunity to improve your overall mental wellness.

Does Hirsch Therapy Work?

Therapy has been proven effective for many people dealing with a wide range of issues, from anxiety and depression to relationship problems and personal growth challenges. The success of therapy depends on various factors, including the therapist-client relationship, the client's commitment, and the specific therapeutic approach used.
